The Tamil-language Novena to the Miraculous Infant Jesus was first composed here at Kavirayapuram — and is now prayed by Tamil communities worldwide.

Born at Kavirayapuram

The Novena to the Miraculous Infant Jesus

The Tamil Novena to the Miraculous Infant Jesus originated at this shrine and spread from here to Tamil-speaking Catholic communities across the world. It is prayed every Friday at the 6:30 PM Novena Mass, and with special solemnity on First Fridays, when thousands gather at the shrine.

The Novena Prayer — Tamil & English

The full text of the Novena, in Tamil and in English translation, is being prepared for publication here with the blessing of the parish — together with downloadable, printable prayer sheets for use at home and in prayer groups.

How to Pray the Novena

  • · Pray for nine consecutive Fridays, or nine consecutive days before a feast.
  • · Begin with the Sign of the Cross and an act of contrition.
  • · Present your intention to the Infant Jesus with childlike trust.
  • · Conclude with the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.
  • · Where possible, join the Novena at the shrine or offer your intention online.

Why Friday?

Thursday is the universal day of the Infant Jesus devotion — but at Kavirayapuram, Fridays hold special significance because the apparition itself occurred on a Friday. The First Friday of each month is the shrine’s great day of devotion.
